Decoy (デコイ Dekoi?) is an interruptive triggered effect keyword introduced in BT-06: Booster Double Diamond. It is indicated by "Decoy" on an orange background.
How it Works[]
When your Digimon with matching condition (X) would be deleted via an opponent’s effect, you may delete the Digimon with the <Decoy (X)> effect instead to prevent that deletion. If you have multiple Digimon that are being deleted simultaneously, you may only use this effect to prevent 1 of those Digimon that matches condition (X) from being deleted.
If a Digimon with this effect would be deleted, it cannot activate this effect to prevent it's own deletion.
Rulings[]
-
Q: What does <Decoy (X)> do?A: When one of your Digimon matching <Decoy (X)>'s specifications would be deleted by an opponent's "delete" effect, you can delete the Digimon with <Decoy (X)> instead to prevent the other Digimon from being deleted.[1]
-
Q: When can <Decoy (X)> be activated?A: When one of your Digimon matching <Decoy (X)>'s specifications would be deleted by an opponent's "delete" effect, you can activate <Decoy (X)> before the Digimon is deleted. Think of it as an effect that interrupts deletions.[1]
-
Q: What happens to the digivolution cards of a Digimon saved with <Decoy (X)>?A: They stay in play. The Digimon saved with <Decoy (X)> isn't deleted, and neither are its digivolution cards.[1]
-
Q: A Digimon saved with <Decoy (X)> has an [On Deletion] effect. Does the [On Deletion] effect activate?A: No. A Digimon saved with <Decoy (X)> isn't deleted, so its [On Deletion] effect doesn't activate.[1]
-
Q: A Digimon that activated <Decoy (X)> and deleted itself to save another Digimon had an [On Deletion] effect. Does that effect activate?A: Yes, it does.
-
Q: Can I use <Decoy (X)> to save a Digimon that's going to be deleted as a result of battle?A: No. <Decoy (X)> can only be used to save Digimon that are going to be deleted by an opponent's effect. You can't use it to save Digimon that lose battles.[1]
-
Q: My opponent uses an effect to reduce one of my Digimon's DP to zero. Can I use <Decoy (X)> to prevent it from being deleted?A: No. Effects that reduce DP aren't considered to be deletion effects, so you can't use <Decoy (X)> to save a Digimon from being deleted at zero DP.[1]
-
Q: If two or more Digimon specified by <Decoy (X)> are being deleted by an effect simultaneously, can I use <Decoy (X)> to save them?A: You can activate <Decoy (X)>, but you can only use it to save one of the Digimon being deleted.[1]
-
Q: If two or more Digimon specified by <Decoy (X)> are being deleted by an effect simultaneously, can I use two or more Digimon with <Decoy (X)> to save each Digimon individually?A: Yes, you can.[1]
-
Q: If a Digimon with <Decoy (X)> and a Digimon matching the specifications of <Decoy (X)> are being deleted by an effect simultaneously, can I use <Decoy (X)> to save the specified Digimon?A: Yes, you can.[1]
-
Q: I attack with a Digimon with <Piercing>. If my opponent's Digimon has <Retaliation>, can I activate <Decoy (X)> before my Digimon is deleted by it? If yes, do I still get to perform security checks with <Piercing>?A: Yes. <Retaliation> is a deletion effect, so you can activate <Decoy (X)> to save a Digimon from it. And since the attacking Digimon stays in play after being saved by <Decoy (X)>, it performs its <Piercing> checks.[1]
Other Rulings[]
-
Q: I have two Digimon with <Decoy (X)>. If one of my Digimon is chosen by my opponent for deletion by their card effect, can I activate both effects of the Digimon?A: Yes, after activating the first <Decoy (X)> it will stop the deletion but you can still delete the second Digimon even though nothing will happen. Both Digimon with <Decoy (X)> will be deleted if you activate both.[2]
-
Q: If I have 2 Digimon that would be deleted by a card effect and both have <Decoy (X)>. Am I allowed to delete both Digimon with their own effects?A: Yes, in which case the Digimon will be considered deleted by your effects instead of your opponent's card effects.[3]
-
Q: If my Digimon has already an effect applied that says it "can't be deleted", does <Decoy (X)> still trigger?A: No, it does not trigger as it was not about to be deleted.[4]
