English Card Text Standards have updated during its printing. Many older cards haven't received newer printings with new Standards. These older texts are often patterns that have been updated to be less confusing or be more clear.
You will find a list of the patterns below.
"Trigger" with Keywords (EN only)[]
The "Trigger" used on these cards is not the official "Trigger" used in the English & Japanese Detailed Rules Explanation.
Many English cards from BT-06: Booster Double Diamond and earlier utilise "trigger" before an action keyword. However, this became problematic when "trigger" became distinctive Gameplay terms in EN & JP after the release of the Detailed Rules Explanation.
Due to this change, "trigger" were no longer used on these card effects. Japanese cards never included words that represented "trigger <Keyword>". These were purely added in during localisation during the period of time they were active.
In addition to "trigger", [P-011 Veedramon Zero] also uses "activate" in place of "trigger" on its English card. The same issues apply to this wording where it did not exist in the Japanese text and was added during localisation and is not the same as the official "activate" from the Detailed Rules Explanation.
Trashing Reminder Text (EN & JP)[]
Many cards from before ST-9: Starter Deck Ultimate Ancient Dragon would contain the reminder text: "Trash the digivolution cards of that/those Digimon." at the end of an effect that moved a Digimon outside of the Battle Area. However, it was unclear whether this text would be part of the effect or reminder text for the effect.
As such, starting from ST-9: Starter Deck Ultimate Ancient Dragon onwards, the reminder text was removed from all cards that moved Digimon out of the Battle Area. However, many older cards have not updated the card text to account for this standardization issue.
As of yet, only [BT4-105 Tactical Retreat!] has had its reminder text removed in its reprint for ST-14: Advanced Deck Beelzemon.
Checking Traits Change (EN Only)[]
Many cards from before EX-03: Theme Booster Draconic Roar would use "[X] in its traits" to check for Traits.
However, starting from BT-10: Booster Xros Encounter onwards, cards started using "[X] in one of its traits" to check for Trait Archetypes. This made it confusing when cards were worded so similarly but referring to different categories.
To resolve this, starting from the English EX-03: Theme Booster Draconic Roar Erratas and onwards many cards have started to use "[X] trait" to avoid this confusion. However, many cards still have not had updated card text to fix this standardization issue.
As of yet, no reprints of older cards have fixed the text on these cards.
