Blitz

Blitz Icon

Blitz (進撃 Shingeki, Translated: Attack?) is an action keyword introduced in BT-05: Booster Battle Of Omni. It is indicated by "Blitz" on an orange background.

How it Works[]

Digimon with this effect can instantly declare an attack even if the memory gauge has passed 0 into your opponent's side.

The <Blitz> attack is declared during the effect when you perform <Blitz>. This starts the Attack Resolution procedures as effects also are triggered for the current stack. The memory must only be at 1 or more on the opponent's side at the time you declare the attack. If the memory returns to 0 or more on your side the attack doesn't end if already declared.

<Blitz> does not ignore regular attack conditions. So it cannot declare an attack if it:

  • Was played this turn.
  • Is currently suspended.
  • is affected by an effect that prevents it from attacking.

When Does a Digimon have Blitz?[]

If the Digimon has an effect that allows them to activate <Blitz> under some given timing and without condition, then the Digimon has a <Blitz> effect and counts towards [BT5-009 Shoutmon]'s effect.

  • [BT5-019 Shoutmon DX] counts as having <Blitz> with its "[When Digivolving] <Blitz>" effect.
  • But [BT9-069 Gaiomon] does not have count as having <Blitz> when revealed because its <Blitz> is conditional.

There are cards that naturally have <Blitz> effects in their original card text, these can be found in Category:Blitz.

[EX2-056 Takato Matsuki] can let Digimon fulfill the conditions of [BT5-014 OmniShoutmon] in the battle area even if they do not naturally have <Blitz>.

Cards that only mention <Blitz> but can't activate <Blitz> do not count as "having <Blitz>" (e.g. [BT5-009 Shoutmon]). For cards that mention and support <Blitz> but don't have it naturally see Category:Blitz Support.

"Have Blitz" vs. "Attacking with Blitz"[]

[BT5-017 ZeigGreymon]'s effect can only be used "when attacking with <Blitz>", this means that the effect will only work when you are currently activating <Blitz> to declare an attack when the memory is on the opponent's side. It does not work if you digivolved in the same turn and are declaring an attack manually outside of <Blitz>.

[BT5-014 OmniShoutmon]'s effect works as long as the "digimon has <Blitz>", this means that as long as the Digimon has an effect that lets them activate <Blitz> the Digimon gets <Security Attack +1> even if it is not currently using the <Blitz> effect and even outside of its timing (e.g. [When Digivolving]).

Rulings[]

  1. Q: What does <Blitz> do?
A: When digivolving into a Digimon with <Blitz>, you can declare an attack with it even if paying the digivolution cost moved the memory gauge to 1 or more on the opponent’s side.[1]
  2. Q: Does attacking with <Blitz> occur during my opponent’s turn?
A: No, it’s still your turn. If you attack with <Blitz>, it doesn’t become your opponent’s turn until the attack ends.[1]
  3. Q: I digivolve into a Digimon with <Blitz>, but I still have memory. Can I still attack with the Digimon with <Blitz>?
A: You can’t make an attack with <Blitz>, but since you still have memory, it’s still your turn, so you can attack with the Digimon normally.[1]
  4. Q: If I attack using <Blitz>, do I have to suspend the attacking Digimon?
A: Yes. When making an attack with <Blitz>, you must suspend the attacking Digimon, just as you would during a standard attack.[1]
  5. Q: I digivolve a suspended Digimon into a Digimon with <Blitz>. Can I attack with that Digimon if the memory gauge moves to 1 or more on the opponent’s side?
A: No. A suspended Digimon can’t attack, even if it has <Blitz>.[1]
  6. Q: I play a Digimon, then digivolve it into a Digimon with <Blitz> during the same turn. Can I attack with the Digimon if the memory gauge moves to 1 or more on the opponent’s side?v
A: No. This effect doesn’t allow you to ignore the rule that Digimon can’t attack the turn they’re played.[1]
  7. Q: One of my Digimon can’t attack due to an opponent’s effect. If I digivolve that Digimon into a Digimon with <Blitz>, and the memory gauge moves to 1 or more on the opponent’s side, can I attack with that Digimon?
A: No. If an opponent’s effect prevents your Digimon from attacking, you can’t use <Blitz> to ignore it.[1]
  8. Q: I digivolve into a Digimon with <Blitz>. I then pay the cost for another card, moving the memory gauge to 1 or more on the opponent’s side. Can I attack with the Digimon with <Blitz> at this time?
A: No. <Blitz> allows a single opportunity to declare an attack, triggered when you digivolve into the Digimon with <Blitz>, and the memory gauge must be at 1 or more on your opponent’s side when you activate <Blitz>. Even if memory moves to your opponent’s side at a later time, you will have already missed the opportunity to use <Blitz>.[1]
  9. Q: I attack with a Digimon with <Blitz>, and its [When Attacking] effect causes it to unsuspend. After the attack ends, can I attack with it again?
A: No. <Blitz> only allows a single attack immediately after digivolving. Even if an effect unsuspends the Digimon with <Blitz>, the memory gauge is at 1 or more on the opponent’s side. It becomes your opponent’s turn after the attack ends, so you can’t make a second attack.[1]
  10. Q: I digivolve into a Digimon with <Blitz>, and paying for the digivolution moves the memory gauge to 1 or more on the opponent’s side. However, a [When Digivolving] effect causes me to gain memory, moving the memory gauge back over to my side. Can I now attack with <Blitz>?
A: No. If you have 0 or more memory at the time you activate <Blitz>, you can’t use it to attack. However, if you activate <Blitz> before the [When Digivolving] effect activates, when the memory gauge is still at 1 or more on the opponent’s side, the attack from <Blitz> will have already been initiated, and won’t end midway even if you end up with zero or more memory.[1]
  11. Q: You attack with a Digimon with <Blitz>, and gain memory from a [When Attacking] effect, moving the memory gauge to 0 or more on your side. Does the attack end midway?
A: No. The <Blitz> attack has already been declared, so it won’t end midway even if you end up with 0 or more memory.[1]
  12. Q: If a Digimon with <Blitz> attacks, can a Digimon with <Blocker> block it?
    A: Yes, it can.[1]

Other Rulings[]

  1. Q: A Digimon that was played this turn digivolves into a Digimon with "[When Digivolving] <Blitz>". Can I activate <Blitz> to declare an attack?
    A: No, you cannot.[2]
  2. Q: If an effect specifies a "Digimon with <Blitz>" or a "Digimon card with <Blitz>," does it apply to Digimon whose effects have [Once Per Turn] or [When Digivolving] attached?
A: Yes, Digimon whose <Blitz> effects have [Once Per Turn]/[When Digivolving]/etc. are also considered to have and are affected by any effect that specifies a "Digimon with <Blitz>."[3]
  3. Q: If I activate <Blitz>, when do my [When Attacking] effects activate, and when do my opponent's [Reaction] effects activate?
A: Your [When Attacking] effects activate before your other [When Digivolving] effects that have yet to resolve. Your opponent's [Reaction] effects activate after your other [When Digivolving] effects that have yet to resolve. (See more in Attack Resolution) Reaction effects will be discontinued in the Japanese rules on the release of ST-15 and ST-16 in Japan
  4. Q: I gave my Digimon a second "[When Digivolving] <Blitz>" effect of [EX2-056 Takato Matsuki]. I digivolve into [BT5-086 Omnimon]. Since there are two instances of the same effect, can I activate the first <Blitz>, unsuspend, and then activate the second <Blitz> effect?
A: No, you cannot declare an attack while you are in the middle of resolving an attack (from the first <Blitz>).[4]
  5. Q: If I digivolve into a Digimon with "[When Digivolving] <Blitz>" on the opponent's turn. Can I attack with <Blitz>?
A: No, you cannot declare an attack on your opponent's turn.[5]
  6. Q: If my [End of Attack] effect digivolves a Digimon into a Digimon with "[When Digivolving] <Blitz>". Can that Digimon declare an attack with <Blitz>?
A: No, it cannot. It is still in the progress of attacking.[6]
